Karanda Initiatives

Karanda Mixed Secondary School Virtual Library

The Karanda Mixed Secondary School serves more than five hundred students in Kisumu, Kenya, including the girls we sponsor every year. These students have limited access to books, whether to read for fun or to supplement their educations. H2o 4 Africa Equals Life Charities, Inc. is compiling a virtual library, to give the students at Karanda access to a thousand e-books across numerous subjects, including mathematics, science, business, and inspiration. This will allow students to engage in further research on the subjects being taught in school, or to pick up a new field of study for their own interest. Each of our sponsored students will be given the contents of the Virtual Library on their laptops, and Karanda Mixed Secondary School will be given an e-reader, donated by Guy Mallory, with the contents of the Virtual Library for use among all teachers and students. Your donation to this effort will cover the cost of the e-books to be purchased and loaded onto the laptops and e-reader.

In loving memory of Guy Mallory.

Bringing Solar Power To Karanda Mixed Secondary School

The Karanda Mixed Secondary School, located in Kisumu, Kenya, operates without electrical power, and currently without solar power. H2o 4 Africa Equals Life Charities, Inc. will provide the school with a powerful solar panel and power station, to be managed by our in-country consultant. Access to the solar panel and power station will allow students and teachers to charge their computers, phones, and the Virtual Library, all of which will contribute greatly to the quality of the students’ educations. Our sponsored students, while supervised by our in-country consultant, will also be permitted to charge small fees in town to use the solar generator to charge cell phones; the proceeds will go towards their school supplies and fees, such as those for uniforms, and will introduce students to business opportunities in Kisumu. Your donation to this effort will cover the cost of the solar panel and power station, and the cost of transporting the solar panel to Kenya safely.

Karanda Mixed Secondary School Tuition Initiative

Since 2017, H2o 4 Africa Equals Life Charities, Inc. has partnered with Karanda Secondary School to provide tuition money for needy and talented girls. Our president, Lovonia Mallory, travels to Kisumu, Kenya to work with the principal at Karanda and our in-country consultant to identify ten talented young women who have been orphaned and who need financial assistance to continue attending school. In addition to the tuition money provided, we also lead our sponsored students through guided research projects dedicated to supporting their school and their community. Our project for the 2019 – 2020 school year will focus on human waste management, to install a waterless toilet at Karanda, as well as alternate energy sources and local invasive species. With your help, these girls will leave school prepared to support themselves through business ventures or further education. Your donation to this effort will cover the cost of tuition, uniform fees, and school supplies, including for an open source laptop, computer mouse, and laptop case for each student.
